Subject: List of potential sites for wind Power Projects in the country


The Ministry has been issuing list of petential sites suitable for win power projects from time to time. Tghe sites considered suitable for wind power project for a mean annual wind power density have been of 200w/m2 or more at 50m above ground level. The data collected at 20/25m height, have been extrapolated to 50m above the ground level under the National Wind Resuource Assessment Programmer. List of potential sites with their Latitudes Longitudes mean annual wind speeds and mean annual power densities is enclosed.

The data has been obtained on actual long-term measurements (1-3 years) and is likely to change with change in climatic and geographical conditions. It is reommended that prper micro-sitting may be carried out by the developers & investors while planning he wind power projects. The detailed wind data for these sites having frequency distribution etc. can be obtained on floppy diskette/hard copy from the Centtre for Wind Energy Technology (C_WET), R-8, North Main Road, Anna Nagar West Extension, Chennai- 600 101. This supersedes the list issued vide circular of even no. dated 21st February, 2003.
