WIND POWER – A MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
The wind while passing through the windmill, converts its kinetic energy with the help of windmill blades into mechanical energy and that mechanical energy is converted into electrical power by means of a generator. Being induction type, the generator works with the help of the grid. Hence the windmills are connected to the Electricity Boards grid and the power generated is fed into the grid. The most important parameter is the location and character of the wind so as to meet the needs in the least expensive and most efficient way. Choosing the right site for the installation of Wind Turbine Generators is the basic factor to get the best out of this Project. The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources, New Delhi has identified potential areas for generation of power through wind energy in the states of Tamilnadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya pradesh and other parts of the country. Wind Turbine Generators can be installed in any of the notified areas and the power can be consumed at the premises of the beneficiary within the same State after connecting to the Electricity Board’s grid under wheeling / banking system. TAP IT RIGHT NOW According to MNES estimates the wind power potential of the country is in the range of 40000 – 50000 MW. BY the end of twentieth century the estimated energy production through non-conventional energy sources is about 6000 MW through bio-mass, followed by 5000 MW from wind energy and 2000 MW from Solar Energy. Amongst all non-conventional energy sources of power, wind power is found to be the most cost-effective and economically viable. |
